The following is the planned composition of a pre-war Soviet infantry company: Headquarters DetachmentCompany Commander Political Officer Sergeant Major Clerk Sniper x 2 Medical Group - 1 Medical NCO - 4 Medics Infantry Platoon (3 Platoons @ 51 men each)Platoon Leader Assistant Platoon Leader Messenger Infantry Group (4 Infantry Groups @ 11 men each) - Group Leader (SVT-40) - Machine Gunner (DP, TT) - Machine Gunner's Assistant (SVT-40) - 2 x Submachine Gunner (PPSh-41) - 5 x Rifleman (SVT-40) - 5 x Rifleman (Mosin-Nagant) Mortar Group (1 Mortar Group @ 4 men) - Group Leader - 3 x Mortarman Machine Gun Platoon (1 Platoon @ 12 men)Platoon Leader Cart Handler Machine Gun Group (2 x MG Group @ 5 men each) - Group Leader - Machine Gunner (DP) - Machine Gunner's Assistant (Mosin-Nagant) - Anti-tank Gunner (PTRS) - Anti-tank Gunner's Assistant (SVT-40) Total Strength: 178 men**NOTE: These were projected strenghts and equipment. An actual company would've been extremely lucky to have this. Also, the SVT-40 was (on paper) the standard Russian infantry rifle by 1941. However, in reality, Russian industry was not ready to produce the SVT-40 in large enough quantities and only specialist units would've been likely to have them. In a real company, virtually every SVT-40 in the chart above would've actually been a Mosin-Nagant.** Information from www-solar.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/~aaron/WW2ORG/sov_InfDiv.html
